Costume World needed creative that could compete during the loudest, most visually crowded retail season of the year. Agency Fix developed campaign creative across outdoor advertising, print, digital, email and web—building a flexible visual language designed to make the brand impossible to overlook.
Costume retailers compete in a world of monsters, superheroes, fantasy characters, theatrical imagery and endless promotions. Playing it safe wasn’t going to get anyone’s attention.
The challenge was to create work that could embrace that visual chaos without losing the Costume World brand—and then translate those ideas across radically different formats, from a roadside billboard to an email sitting inside someone’s inbox.
The creative had permission to be theatrical, because the product itself is theatrical.
Rather than forcing every campaign into a rigid template, the creative was built around seasonal concepts that gave Costume World room to change personalities.
Dark. Funny. Glamorous. Creepy. Fashion-forward. Larger than life. The common thread was strong imagery, immediate messaging and a visual hierarchy designed to communicate in seconds.
Billboards don’t give you much time.
The Costume World outdoor campaigns relied on oversized characters, dramatic contrast and short, memorable campaign lines that could communicate from across a highway.
Campaign concepts including “Ghouls Gone Wild” and “What Side Are You On?” turned individual costume categories into larger seasonal ideas capable of carrying an entire campaign.
The same visual energy continued into print advertising and promotional collateral.
Magazine-style ads, flyers and seasonal pieces allowed the campaigns to become more detailed while maintaining the immediate visual impact of the outdoor work. Costume photography became the centerpiece, with typography and messaging supporting the personality of each campaign.
Seasonal retail moves quickly. Digital creative had to do the same.
Campaign imagery was adapted for digital advertising and promotional messaging while maintaining the same dramatic visual language established across the broader campaign. The result was a system flexible enough to move between theatrical Halloween creative, fashion-oriented costume promotions and direct-response retail messaging.
The campaign didn’t stop with advertising.
Costume World’s digital presence extended the brand into website design, promotional email and e-commerce—connecting the attention generated by seasonal advertising with the products customers were actually shopping for.
The website balanced Costume World’s theatrical personality with a much more functional job: helping visitors browse costumes, discover categories and move toward a purchase or rental.
Outdoor. Print. Digital. Email. E-commerce. In-store. Different formats. Different audiences. Different amounts of time to capture someone’s attention.
The goal was to make each piece feel appropriate for its environment without losing the personality of the larger Costume World brand. That’s what turns a collection of advertisements into a campaign.
Campaign Strategy · Creative Execution · Multi-Channel Brand Expression
This project predates today’s AgencyFix, but the thinking behind it remains central to how we approach campaign creative today: find the idea, build a visual language around it, and create enough flexibility for that idea to live everywhere the audience encounters the brand.
The original Costume World engagement included outdoor advertising, print and promotional creative, digital campaigns, email marketing and website design. This case study presents that identity through contemporary campaign visualizations across the same channels.
From the first concept to the last touchpoint, AgencyFix builds campaigns designed to stay recognizable wherever they appear.
